Observers predict Duterte’s daughter will run for president
A political observer from Ateneo de Manila University, Antonio La Vina, believes that Duterte’s decision to retire from politics will pave the way for Sara Duterte-Carpio to become a presidential candidate for the Philippines. Sara is Duterte’s daughter.
“This allowed Sara Duterte to come forward,” said Antonio La Vina.
Sara is currently serving as mayor of Davao City, replacing Duterte. Last month, he said he had agreed with his father that only one would run in the 2022 election.

Duterte still has time to change his mind
Even so, La Vina did not rule out the possibility that Duterte would change his mind and replace Go as a vice presidential candidate. Candidates have until Friday to register.
